Matthew 3:16-17 King James Version (KJV) 16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

An honest answer is like a kiss of friendship. (NLT) -Proverbs 24:26
Friends can be very dear to us, so much that we don't want to hurt their feelings. Often we will bend or stretch the truth in order to protect a friend. Is this really honoring towards your friendship? Have courage to gently tell the truth but show respect towards your friendship with honesty.

Don't be misled - you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. (NLT) -Galatians 6:7
There are paths we take in life that take us in certain directions. If you save a dollar a day, you are sure to have savings accumulated. It's easy to want to think that if we only planted a few seeds the harvest will be plentiful, such as working late nights all week and expecting to come home to a happy family. But that rarely works. Instead, you reap what you sow. Where have you planted yourself?

Faith's Checkbook: Prayer, Thanksgiving, Praise
Phil 4:6-7 - Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Each time he said, "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness." So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. (NLT) -2 Corinthians 12:9
"I'm the best cook." "No one can beat my golfing record." "My child is an honor student." Each of these are strengths we proudly boast to one another. It is absurd to think about taking pride in our weaknesses. We are uncomfortable with weaknesses because recognizing them means we are not enough. Yet this attitude welcomes Christ into our lives so He can perfect our weakness and He can receive glory. What is one of your weaknesses? Invite Christ to have the power to work in you. Share your weakness with others and watch to see the power of Christ.

"So don't be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom." (NLT) -Luke 12:32
Why do we worry? Where does our worry come from? Is it placed in a mistrust in God? Can you hear the tender love in those words, "Don't be afraid, little flock?" Our heavenly Father actually wants to relieve us of those worries and then share with us His Kingdom. Put aside your worries and take peace in your Father's gift.

Finally, he said to his gardener, 'I've waited three years, and there hasn't been a single fig! Cut it down. It's just taking up space in the garden. (NLT) -Luke 13:7
This verse portrays our lives like a fig tree where God has patiently nurtured and tended us to be fruitful and produce figs. Without a mission in life we become barren in our fruitfulness. If you are struggling finding God's mission for you, examine your heart. What activities, relationships or connections pull at your heart strings? Do you find yourself reaching out to those with disabilities? Do you have a way with words that brings healing to others? Take those thumbprints of God and work towards producing more figs so you aren't just taking up space.

And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. (NLT) -Jude 1:22
Everyone is susceptible to wavering in faith. Perhaps it's even necessary to pick away some of our pride. Everyone wants a kind and merciful soul who can recognize wavering and step in to support and reinforce the role Christ should have in our life in a non-condemning way. Do we always do this for other people though? Or do we get puffed up in pride and judge and condemn others when they waver? How can you show mercy today?

Give me the wisdom and knowledge to lead them properly, for who could possibly govern this great people of yours? (NLT) -2 Chronicles 1:10
If God were to grant you one wish in life, what would you ask for? In this verse, Solomon had the opportunity to be selfish and ask for wealth, fame, revenge, anything. Yet he asked for none of those things, instead he asked for wisdom to be a good leader. Solomon recognized the responsibilities and blessings God had gifted him and asked for God to help him be a wise steward of those blessings. God recognized this selfless act and then rewarded Solomon by granting him wealth and fame. Are you petitioning the Lord to equip you to be a good leader amongst your friends, children, coworkers, and family because of the blessings you have?

Have you ever had a difficult time living for Christ? Does it ever feel awkward and forced because you follow a bunch of rules? Try focusing on loving God and letting Him love you. Once you begin to love someone, it's a natural response to want to live for them. Why would it be any different with God? You can only love God when you truly recognize the sacrifice of His selfless love for you.

You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. (NLT) -1 Peter 3:4
We spend a lot of time focusing on our outward appearance such as perfecting our hairstyle, improving our physique, selecting the right clothes. In all, a lot of thought goes into creating just the right look. Do we spend the same amount of time cultivating our inner beauty? We know what inner beauty looks like...patience, generosity, peace-loving, fearless, and filled with a silent strength. Are we spending more time worrying about the color of our teeth instead of the kind of words that come out of our mouth? Ultimately our words are a reflection of our heart.

You begin to see events that happen to you in a different light. Bad things can be seen as blessings and learning experiences. In effect, you become abundantly prosperous because what you previously saw as trivial, meaningless, or burdensome have now turned to rich experiences. How rich is your life? But I'll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill you and then throw you into hell. Yes, he's the one to fear. (NLT) -Luke 12:5
When our fear comes from sources other than God our actions look totally different. Many times the source of fear comes from man. We are often driven by fear of being disliked, pressure to measure up, false guilt, or disloyalty. When we fear God, we have the freedom to be honest with man and not worry about backlash or conflict. We no longer get caught up in reputation, flattery, or malice. When God's people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality. (NLT) -Romans 12:13
What would it look like for you to be eager to be hospitable? Hospitality is both a mindset and preparation. A lot of times we talk ourselves out of hosting a gathering because our home isn't ready. In actuality we don't want to extend ourselves. Other times, we are willing and able, but aren't prepared with clean sheets or a meal in the freezer. Don't let things stand in your way of practicing hospitality, be ready.

...You must show your appreciation to all who serve so well. (NLT) -1 Corinthians 16:18
Everyone encounters bad customer service one time or another. It can be with the waitress, cable company, or call center operator who is hard to understand. Instead of reacting in anger, take a different approach and reward those who do get it right by shining some Godly light. How would you like it if you gave a very special gift to someone and they refused it? Tweak your humility to recognize God.

He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. (NLT) -Luke 19:3
Are you standing on your tip toes trying to get closer to God? Usually, when on your tip toes, after some time a soreness begins creeping up your legs. In the same way, a relationship with God will bring a bit of pain. Standing on your toes will strengthen your muscles and build stamina, but so too it is the same in a closer relationship with God. Those extra inches in height will bring you a glorious view of God, His Kingdom, and His plan. Go on, stretch yourself!
