Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. (NLT) -Philippians 2:3 How can we not be selfish? That's difficult when the overwhelming majority of our thoughts are about ourselves. The second half of this verse has the answer. When we think of others more often than ourselves we battle with our selfishness. It's not asking us to think badly of ourselves, but instead to think higher of others. This can mean we give others the benefit of the doubt, release our grudges, and pay attention to the thoughtfulness others extend to us. Work today towards thinking of others more.
