Matthew 3:16-17 King James Version (KJV) 16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

"You must not mistreat or oppress foreigners in any way. Remember, you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt." (NLT) -Exodus 22:21
Being new or foreign is always an uncomfortable feeling, as if you are always on the outside and everyone else is inside. Yet, when we are established we barely notice the arrival of newcomers. Constantly we have opportunities to reach out to others who are new students, coworkers, neighbors, or even immigrants. To oppress is to keep someone in hardship. Often the struggle of adjusting alone is enough to feel oppressed. We can make a difference and ease the oppression of newcomers. When you see someone new, reach out, befriend them, and help them feel welcomed and included.
