Matthew 3:16-17 King James Version (KJV) 16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Then David confessed to Nathan, "I have sinned against the Lord." Nathan replied, "Yes, but the Lord has forgiven you, and you won't die for this sin. Nevertheless, because you have shown utter contempt for the Lord by doing this, your child will die." (NLT) -2 Samuel 12:13-14
Receiving forgiveness from God does not eliminate the consequences of our sins. There are still consequences to come, although it may not be the death of your child. Take the example of years of unhealthy eating habits and lack of regular exercise. If God convicts you and you ask for forgiveness, you still experience the effects of those decisions. The Lord disciplines those He loves.
