Matthew 3:16-17 King James Version (KJV) 16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. (NLT) -1 Timothy 6:10
Why does the Bible take such a strong position against loving money? Perhaps because of the power we give to money. If we aren't careful, we place a greater emphasis on gaining money and maintaining possessions as a greater priority than loving our family and friends. Or worse, our mind becomes consumed with thoughts of money and how much things cost more than thinking of God. Is the majority of your thoughts and attention focused on conserving, increasing, or saving money? If so, could you be piercing yourself with many sorrows?
