Matthew 3:16-17 King James Version (KJV) 16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. (NLT) -1 Timothy 6:11
People of God pursue godliness, not materialism, with all of their being. It’s possible to be blinded by greed, even to the point of losing our faith. Living our lives only focused on money brings sorrow. We are called to trust God, pursue righteousness and a godly life, rather than pursuing “things.” When are focus is first on Him, He is faithful to provide the stuff of this world that we need.
